Program Description

Students will begin the day with an opening devotion and continue with the following classes:

Catechesis & Recitation – This class will focus on learning and reviewing hymns, psalms, Bible verses, and Catechism selections. Using music and repetition, students will also memorize facts related to other academic subject areas, such as geography, American history, and poetry, etc.

Grammar – Using the Well-Ordered Language curriculum, "students will not merely be able to identify the parts of a sentence, but also will understand how words behave in a sentence. The curriculum is designed for students to actively engage with the grammatical concepts in each lesson, using language skills—reading, writing, speaking, and listening—along with physical movement, songs, and chants. Through Well-Ordered Language’s unique, creative, and orderly method of analyzing the grammatical functions of the parts of speech, students will find the mastery of grammar achievable, meaningful, and delightful."

Composition – This class will develop students’ writing skills, using the Structure and Style approach from Andrew Pudewa’s Institute for Excellence in Writing curriculum.

History/Geography – Students in 6th-8th grade will study American history, using Part 1 of the America the Beautiful curriculum from Notgrass History. This year, Dialectic Level students will be studying the history of America from before its founding in 1492 until just after the Civil War.

Mathematics – The Simply Good and Beautiful Math program is fun, engaging, and mathematically excellent. The curriculum is designed to cover four lessons per week. Two of these lessons will be taught during class time at Logos, while the other two lessons will be taught by the parent at home. 

Students will need to take a math assessment over the summer in order to determine their grade level placement. For students, who are ready for more advanced math, we offer an ala carte Algebra class from 3:30 to 5:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students will need to register separately for the Algebra class.

Literature – Students will be reading books from the Memoria Press Seventh Grade Literature program and other sources. Class time will involve reading aloud selections from the books and class discussions.

Latin – Using the Latin for Children curriculum, students will be trained in grammar, vocabulary, and English derivatives in a lively, interactive way that is perfectly suited to students in the grammar stage.
